Music night at Deva Lodge

On the 21st March Deva Lodge was proud to present an audience with Philip Chidell.

Philip is a well-known classical musician based in the city of Chester. He performs regularly at concerts and other events, and during the summer months can be heard playing his violin in our historic city centre.

On Friday 21st March, he treated members and guests of Deva lodge to an evening of music featuring many well known classics including many film and musical favourites.

The evening was made complete with an extensive buffet dinner.

All proceeds from the evening go towards the Cheshire Masons Tercentenary

More about Philip

Philip recently launched a small orchestra, consisting of ten other talented young musicians, with two concerts at Chester’s Town Hall. In May 2025, the orchestra will be growing in size, to a total of 18 musicians. Three more magical concerts will be staged at the same venue, and tickets are now available here.

We wish Philip every success in his endeavors

Deva Lodge reports Tripe Dresser membership at all time low!

Times have certainly changed. Whilst new membership of Deva Lodge shows encouraging growth, the trade or profession of our membership has changed substantially over the 115 years that our lodge has been operating. Tripe Dresser is just one of the many interesting professions from which our members have been drawn over the years. Those amongst us who can still remember the joys of tripe probably will not mourn the decline in this particular delicacy! Nevertheless, as older trades have declined, Freemasonry is seeing a strong growth in membership from those in 21st-century technologies such as engineering, IT technologies and the internet. Freemasonry has not been slow in adopting these technologies, with a whole host of informational and learning resources hosted on the website of the United Grand Lodge of England, which can be accessed here.

Deva Lodge donates to Children Today

Excerpt from the Standard Newspaper 25th July 2024

Children Today Charitable Trust has been given a £625 donation from Deva Masonic Lodge No 3447.

The children’s disability charity, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, was delighted to be chosen by Deva Masonic Lodge, which is based in Christleton, to receive the award.

In addition, the Deva Masonic Lodge has previously given the charity an extra boost with the presentation of a £100 gift voucher for Clarks shoe retailer to be used as a raffle prize, to help raise more funds.

Emma Prescott, charity director at Children Today, said: “We’re extremely grateful for the support from the Deva Masonic Lodge. It’s becoming increasingly challenging to raise sufficient funds while more and more families who need our support, so donations like these go a long way to helping children and families who so desperately need our help.”

The Chester-based charity will use the funds to continue supporting disabled children and their families with life-changing adapted equipment – including but not limited to adapted trikes, adapted buggies and sensory equipment – and support services.

Emma added: “The additional cost associated with raising a child with a disability combined with a cost-of-living crisis means that so often families are unable to afford vital equipment that can be transformational for a disabled child, and often the wider family too.
